What is the WCS (Workplace Charging Scheme)?
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a government scheme for electric vehicles offered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). It is a grant that businesses can use to reduce the cost of installing electric vehicle charge points for their staff by £350 per charger. Businesses can claim for up to 40 chargers.
Who qualifies for the WCS?
The WCS is available to any business, charity, or public authority that meet the following:
- You must have off-street parking which is only used by staff or the fleet and which must be either on-site or a reasonable distance from the place of work.
- While you do not need to currently have electric vehicles as part of your fleet, you will need to express an existing or future need for the business.
- You must have the charging station installed by an OZEV-approved WCS installer like Lawson Electrical.
- Own the property or have consent from the landlord for chargepoints to be installed at all the sites listed in the application.
- Have received – or have currently pending at the time of application – less than £200,000 of public support in the last 3 financial years.
How does the ECS work?
The applicant must first fill in the online application form as per the government website. Successful applicants are then issued with a unique identification voucher code by email, which can then be given to any OZEV authorised WCS installer, such as Lawson Electrical. Once the charger is installed, the authorized installer will claim back the grant from OZEV on the applicants behalf and deduct the grant from the invoice.
