Lawson Electrical recently concluded another Solar System upgrade for a customer based in Westcliff-On-Sea. The customer originally had a basic system with a standard grid tied inverter fuelled by 6 x395W panels. They were very happy with the benefits offered by this system but wanted to amplify these with some system modifications.
The new proposal consisted of swapping out the original inverter with a 5KW Solis hybrid inverter. This was supplemented by 2x 4.8KW batteries and 9 additional 425W panels.
This customer in particular has a relatively high energy use as the majority of the time they heat their home using underfloor heating. They are also on an economy 7 energy tariff; using the battery for storage they are able to pull cheaper energy from the grid at night and use it on cloudy days when generation might not meet consumption. However given the upgrades and performance figures since commissioning, this customer is predicted to be off-grid for 10 months a year which is better than the result they were hoping for. Indeed in the warmer months excess electricity sold back to the grid will cover both the electricity and gas bills and build up credit on their energy account.
